Pears from Peru...OUCH!!!! Help!?

I work in a fruit and veggie market. Yesterday, pears came in wooden boxes from Peru. I opened them up, put my hand in to unwrap them and felt a hot sting on my baby finger. I looked in the box and saw nothing! My finger is sore and throbbing. Please don't tell me to go see the doctor...cause I will come Monday or Tuesday. Just wanted to know if anybody might have an idea what may have nipped me! :) Thanx a bunch and PLEASE...wash your produce before you it it!!! You wouldn't believe the crap they COAT on fruits and veggies!
